Working within the Financial Services industry since 1988, Jane has been providing advice for over 15 years. In 1994, she decided to go it alone and set up her own practice, Jane Smith Independent Financial Services. In 2002, with the company growing and moving towards the provision of a financial planning service rather than transactional advice, the decision was made to change the name of the company to Jane Smith Financial Planning Limited.
Jane, along with all her staff recognises the importance of continuous study and has achieved various additional qualifications covering areas including tax and trusts, pensions and long-term care. However, her main achievement to date has been attaining the designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) - an international benchmark for competence as a financial planner. In the UK the number of CFP licensees is growing as the emphasis switches from mainly transaction-based advice to good planning, but is still only just over 750, with only three CFPs, including Jane, currently working in Bedfordshire.
In 1997, Nicola graduated from Loughborough University with a politics degree. Having spent just over two years as a recruitment consultant, Nicola decided that a change of career was required and having seen her mother’s business grow from strength to strength decided to join her.
Nicola has been qualified to provide advice since 2001, and now holds additional qualifications covering areas such as tax and trusts, personal investment planning and lifetime mortgages. She, like Jane, sees the benefits of attaining the CFP designation and is currently working towards achieving this accreditation.
