A big thank you to everyone who baked and/or supported the recent Big Olney Bake Off as part of Big Olney Food Festival (BOFF). All proceeds raised are going to Helen and Douglas House. You might remember that we have previously raised money for Toby’s Trust – Toby and his family have found the support of Helen and Douglas House and both we and the BOFF team thought it a very worthy cause.
After a summer packed full of sunshine, Saturday 8th September wasn’t the balmiest of days. But thankfully the rain held off for most of the afternoon, enabling eager bakers to leave their spectacular efforts in the tent ready for judging.
Olney residents and cake maker extraordinaires, Catherine and Jemma, were joined in their judging by 2007 MasterChef finalist Hannah Miles. She also very kindly donated some of her books as prizes. They all said how difficult the judging was, as entries were both creative and of a high standard. With a beer tankard of cupcakes, an octopus, teddy bears and the like in cake and cupcake form, the winners on the day were both bakers of sublime chocolate cakes.
The winner of the under 12’s category was 7 year old Isabella who not only bought all the ingredients, but baked the entire cake completely on her own. Whilst the winner of the 12 years and over was Holly, whose elegant chocolate cake was a real hit.
Well done to everyone involved. Hope to see you next year!
